Embark Studios is taking steps against cheaters in its well-known multiplayer game Arc Raiders. Beginning Monday, players suspected of cheating received an in-game alert regarding a 30-day suspension. This move follows weeks of conversations on online forums concerning the rising issue of cheating. Last week, Embark revealed intentions to combat game-breaking tools such as wallhacks, invisibility exploits, and aimbots. Some players are concerned that including minor exploits, like map glitches, could be excessive if they result in permanent bans.
At present, a one-month suspension is the typical punishment, with habitual offenders possibly facing permanent bans. Nonetheless, not all players find this satisfactory. On Reddit, some contend that the initial punishment is inadequate. “1 month only?” one user remarked, hoping for longer suspensions proportional to the seriousness of the cheating. Another noted, “Suspension? Sure, that’ll teach ’em.”
Innovative proposals in the discussion included allowing cheaters to endlessly clip through the ground, enforcing a permanent 10 percent movement-speed reduction, or more drastic actions such as flooding the map with infinitely respawning enemies or segregating cheaters onto a different server.
Whether Embark will heighten the severity of penalties or continue with progressive bans remains unclear, but for the time being, Arc Raiders cheaters have received an official warning.
