Braze Xbox Test Notification Deluges Devices: What We Understand

If you’re overwhelmed by notifications from the Xbox app, you’re not the only one.

Approximately at 12:30 p.m. ET, users began to receive a multitude of pop-up notifications stating:

This is a test message sent through Braze. Please take a screenshot when you receive this. This should direct you to the newly added gallery.

Users of the app swiftly turned to Reddit to talk about the influx of notifications. In a post that has now been deleted by moderators, users theorized that the problem was internal. “Someone deployed Test to Prod. The whole app is malfunctioning,” one user remarked. Others, noting the reference to the development tool Braze, proposed it was probably a test message intended for internal teams. “It signifies nothing, your account wasn’t hacked or compromised, it’s likely just a backend testing mistake,” mentioned one Reddit user.

“It led me to the ‘uninstalling this app ASAP mindset’ is what it did,” expressed another annoyed user.

What is Braze?

Braze is a platform for customer engagement and audience management. It offers tools and quality assurance services that allow companies to test and send messaging campaigns — which many believe led to the Xbox app spam.
