What is Connections?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game has turned into a social media phenomenon. The Times attributes the game’s development and introduction to the Games section to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu. Connections can be accessed via web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to categorize four words that share a common trait.

Every puzzle consists of 16 words, split into four groups. These groups could represent anything from book titles to software or country names. Even though several words might appear to connect, there is only one correct choice.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a group, those words are eliminated from the board. An incorrect guess counts as a mistake—players may make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players have the option to rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate finding connections. Each category is color-coded, with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share your results with friends on social media.
