Prices for Motorola’s Moto G budget phone rise by as much as 50%

Motorola, recognized for its dependable affordable smartphones in the United States, is undergoing a change this year. As reported by Ars Technica, the 2026 versions of Motorola’s inexpensive range have experienced notable price hikes. For example, the Moto G, Moto G Play, and Moto G Power have increased in cost by 33 to 50 percent compared to the previous year. The Moto G Play, which was previously priced at $180, has now escalated to $250. Furthermore, the 2026 Moto G Stylus has debuted at $500, marking a $100 increase from last year’s pricing.

In response to questions from Mashable, a spokesperson for Motorola remarked: “Pricing is consistently subject to fluctuations based on market dynamics. We frequently evaluate pricing strategies to stay competitive and persist in providing robust bundle and promotional deals to ensure consumers receive maximum value.”

Although phone prices typically rise each year due to enhancements in hardware or software, the latest Moto G Stylus maintains identical display and memory specifications to last year’s model. Usually, brands provide upgraded specifications alongside higher prices.

A probable cause for the price increases is the persistent memory scarcity driven by global AI data center developments, impacting everything from the costs of gaming consoles to shortages of SD cards, with no foreseeable conclusion. Tariffs and inflation further exacerbate this pressure.

Consumers must determine if the elevated price of a smartphone is justified by the additional AI features. Like numerous technology firms, Motorola is wholeheartedly adopting artificial intelligence.
