Meta Launches Direct Messaging for Threads Web Edition

Meta is rolling out a feature for the web edition of Threads that should have been launched earlier. As reported by Engadget, Threads executive Connor Hayes posted an image showcasing a refreshed design for the browser version of the Twitter-like social platform. This update introduces new aspects to the left sidebar, including the capability to toggle between various feeds and the incorporation of a direct messaging inbox. This functionality has been present in the Threads mobile application since last June, but web users have been lacking it for almost a year. This is likely to change in the near future.

Hayes’ announcement did not indicate when the redesign will be implemented, so web-based Threads users who are eager to send and receive DMs will need to remain patient. Hayes noted that updates can be anticipated “in the coming weeks.”

The disparity in feature availability between the mobile and web adaptations of Threads might appear peculiar to veteran social media users, but there is rationale behind it. Threads has gained traction, particularly on mobile devices, while X continues to be the favored microblogging platform on web browsers. Meta is concentrating on where its user base is most engaged. Nevertheless, web users can now feel confident that they haven’t been disregarded.
