If you’ve been utilizing Sniffies to check out your local vicinity but are weary of the online version, there’s some good news: Squirt has introduced its own iOS application.
This introduction comes at an opportune moment as Squirt, which has been established for more than twenty years and predates Grindr, was recently included in our compilation of the top gay dating applications. Previously, iPhone users had to depend on mobile web browsers due to Apple’s stringent adult content regulations, rendering a native iOS application improbable.
“One of the primary obstacles in arriving here was modernizing a platform developed over 26 years, with layers of infrastructure and changing technologies,” Andrew Nolan, Head of Dating Businesses at Squirt’s parent organization, Pink Triangle Press, informs Mashable. “Simultaneously, the landscape is evolving rapidly, with new state-level regulations and growing demands regarding age and ID verification, so possessing a more adaptable, updated foundation allows us to act swiftly and adjust as those changes progress.”
The new application is officially named SQ Dating — Gay Chat & Meet. Recognized for being a “cruising-first” platform, Squirt serves as a local directory for gay, bi, and curious men looking for casual encounters. Based on a 2025 member survey, 80 percent of users have successfully connected via the platform.
If you’re wondering how a platform characterized by one Reddit user as “very sleezy and slutty” gained entry to the Apple App Store, it was achieved through careful strategizing.
“Getting SQ Dating into the iOS and Android stores is a significant milestone for us,” remarks Nolan. “The app offers a more streamlined (with additional features forthcoming), PG manner to connect, chat, and date, while still remaining linked to the complete Squirt experience on the web, where things are much more open and expressive.”
