What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge, in partnership with The Athletic, emphasizes sports reporting. The sports Connections can be accessed via web browsers and mobile devices, mandating players to categorize four words connected by a common theme.

Each puzzle features 16 words, classified into four groups. These clusters might contain book titles, software names, country titles, etc. While many words might appear to have connections, only one correct grouping is available.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a group, those words are eliminated from play. Incorrect attempts are counted as errors — players may make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are allowed to rearrange and shuffle the board to discover connections more effectively. Each category is color-coded: yellow signifies the easiest, then green, blue, and purple follow. Like Wordle, results can be shared on social media.
