What is Connections?

The NYT‘s latest daily word puzzle has become a phenomenon on social media. The Times attributes the development of the game to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu, who helped introduce it to the Games section. Connections can be accessed on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to categorize four words that share a commonality.

Each puzzle features 16 words, organized into four groups. These groups can range from book titles to names of software or countries. While various words may seem to correlate, only one combination is correct.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a group, those words are eliminated from the board. A wrong guess counts as an error—players can make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are permitted to rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate finding connections. Moreover, each group is designated a color code: yellow denotes the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you can share your results with friends on social media.
