Apple ceases production of the economical Mac Mini, which is now listed at $799

Apple has retired its least expensive Mac Mini model, a 256GB desktop priced at $599. As reported by MacRumors, the new base Mac Mini now starts at $799 with a 512GB storage option. This enhanced version features Apple’s M4 chip and 16GB of RAM, akin to the earlier $599 variant but with double the storage space.

Recently, Apple stopped taking orders for the sold-out 256GB Mac Mini, indicating a shift in their product offerings. CEO Tim Cook, who has announced his exit after 14 years, stated during an earnings call that Mac Mini availability is constrained due to global manufacturing issues, which hampers their ability to satisfy demand. The tech sector is grappling with a worldwide memory chip shortage, which is anticipated to intensify in the upcoming year.

Cook pointed out a surge in Mac Mini orders attributed to its AI capabilities, emphasizing its Apple Intelligence processing strength. The device has gained traction amid increased interest in agentic AI, following the introduction of the open-source AI agent framework OpenClaw.
