What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge is in collaboration with The Athletic, the New York Times platform for sports reporting. The sports Connections is accessible on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to categorize four words based on a shared connection.

Each puzzle comprises 16 words, organized into four categories. These groups might range from book titles to software or country names. While several words may appear to connect, there’s solely one correct grouping.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are cleared from the board. An incorrect guess is counted as a mistake — players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players have the ability to rearrange and shuffle the board to discover connections more efficiently. Each group is associated with a color: yellow indicates the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you can share your results with friends on social media.
