Individual Who Disclosed Secret Pentagon Files on Discord Receives 15-Year Prison Sentence

A former Air National Guard member has been sentenced to prison for his role in disseminating classified information via a gaming-focused chat platform.

Jack Teixeira, who once served with the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was handed a 15-year prison sentence for unlawfully obtaining classified documents from the Department of Defense and uploading them to a Discord server, as reported by [NBC News](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/pentagon-leaker-jack-teixeira-sentenced-15-years-prison-sharing-milita-rcna179792).

Although the U.S. attorney’s office requested a sentence of approximately 17 years, the judge ultimately ruled for 15 years, referencing Teixeira’s specialized training in managing sensitive information. His actions were viewed as a significant violation of that duty.

Teixeira admitted guilt to six charges of willfully distributing national defense information in accordance with the Espionage Act. The classified leaks, which were posted on Discord over about a year from 2022 to 2023, reportedly comprised sensitive data regarding U.S. support to Ukraine, among other subjects.

Regardless of how disordered or atypical your Discord server might be, it probably won’t measure up to the one connected to this incident.
