LinkedIn to Cease Its Audio Events Functionality

LinkedIn is discontinuing its Audio Events feature.

In a recent [update](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a7144422?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email), the platform revealed that Audio Events will be combined with LinkedIn Live, leading to the termination of its audio-only streaming option.

### Important Dates for the Transition
Beginning December 2, LinkedIn users will be unable to schedule new Audio Events. Any existing Audio Events set for before December 31 will proceed as planned, but events arranged after that date must be rescheduled by December 15. After December 31, Audio Events will no longer be offered.

### The Rise and Decline of LinkedIn’s Audio Events
Introduced in 2022, Audio Events emerged as LinkedIn’s answer to the surging popularity of audio-only platforms like Twitter Spaces and [Clubhouse](https://mashable.com/article/what-is-clubhouse-app). These platforms saw substantial growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Clubhouse even achieving a valuation of $1 billion at its zenith.

Nevertheless, the momentum for audio streaming diminished as pandemic restrictions lifted and society acclimatized to life after lockdown. By 2023, Clubhouse was [laying off](https://deadline.com/2023/04/clubhouse-live-audio-app-resetting-layoffs-1235340817/) half of its staff, indicating the decline of this format.

### LinkedIn’s New Course
LinkedIn conveyed that it is “unifying” its Audio Events with LinkedIn Live features. However, in contrast to Audio Events, LinkedIn Live necessitates users to stream via a third-party service. With this transition, LinkedIn is also eliminating its native streaming functionalities, relegating users to depend on external tools for live streaming.

This concludes LinkedIn’s trial with audio-only events as the platform shifts towards consolidating its live streaming services.
