Silo Season 2, Episode 3: Revealing Solo

Juliette Nichols (played by Rebecca Ferguson) has only just begun Season 2 of *Silo*, and her experience has already become quite distressing. The downside? She finds herself trapped in a barren, flooded silo teeming with bodies and engulfed by noxious air. Cut off from her loved ones, she is in constant peril. The upside? She has encountered an unexpected ally.

But just who is Solo (portrayed by Steve Zahn), the enigmatic sole survivor of Silo 17? What has caused him to be the only one still breathing? And what fuels his resolve to stay concealed within the vault?

Let’s dissect Episode 3 and reveal what insights we’ve gained thus far.

### Who is Solo?

During their first encounter at the conclusion of Episode 1, Juliette begins to learn more about Solo in Episode 3. Regrettably, his disclosures aren’t particularly reassuring.

“My name is Solo. Just Solo, because I’m all alone in here,” he states. “So I’m Solo. And the individuals outside weren’t forced out. They made a choice to leave. And when they did, it was a beautiful day. Everyone was smiling. Then that dust started to swirl again. I think the poison faded for a moment, but it returned — in abundance. That’s when they all perished.”

Solo recounts a haunting tale about Ron Tucker, a man who chose not to clean the camera lens outside the silo and instead scribbled “Lies” on it prior to vanishing.

“Two days later, they painted on the screen — ‘Lies,’ right over what he had written,” Solo elaborates. “And that’s when the conflict began. So Russell confined me in here. Russell was the head of IT, and I was his shadow. And Russell instructed me — no matter what — never allow anyone into the vault. Ever.”

### Is Solo being honest?

At first glance, Solo’s narrative appears credible. We’ve already witnessed the corpses outside Silo 17, and it’s evident that the area is deserted. His tales of insurrection and demise correspond with our observations. Furthermore, his assertion of being the Head of IT’s shadow is logical since only the Head of IT and their shadow are permitted access to the vault.

Nonetheless, there are discrepancies. When Juliette presses him about the bodies outside the vault that “aren’t as old as the others,” Solo evades the question. He also sidesteps some of her additional questions, and when he reminisces about the day everyone abandoned the silo, his gaze shifts uncomfortably just before stating, “It was a nice day.” It’s apparent he is holding back information.

Additionally, there’s the issue of the bodies outside the vault. Toward the conclusion of the episode, Juliette uncovers the phrase “WE WILL GET IN SOONER OR LATER” scratched onto the door facing Solo’s viewing slit. This implies that others have attempted to breach the vault previously. But why didn’t Solo assist them? If his account of Silo 17 is genuine, why does he react so defensively to specific inquiries? Clearly, there’s more to Solo’s tale than he is revealing.

### What’s coming up?

As Juliette delves deeper into the enigmas surrounding Silo 17 and Solo’s history, it’s evident that the reality is much more intricate than it first seems. What truths is Solo concealing, and how will they affect Juliette’s chances of survival in this treacherous setting?
