Bluesky Reveals Initial Preview of Bluesky+, Its Latest Subscription Offering

This week, we had an early look at Bluesky+, the much-anticipated premium subscription offering from the social media platform Bluesky. However, hold off on pulling out your wallet just yet. The company seems to be in the initial phases of its development, as indicated by a mockup shared on its [official GitHub page](https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app/pull/6977).

As reported by [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2024/12/09/bluesky-teases-paid-subscription-bluesky-in-new-mockup/?guccounter=1), the mockup presents potential features for Bluesky+, such as custom app icons, a Bluesky+ profile badge, inline translation for posts, improved profile customization options, higher resolution video uploads, post insights, and bookmark folders. The suggested pricing for the subscription service is set at $8 per month or $72 for the year.

The mockup was allegedly shared on Bluesky earlier this week by the user @saeri.xyz, whose account now seems to be deactivated.

Bluesky has clarified on its [GitHub page](https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app/pull/6977) that the mockup is entirely conceptual and might not represent the final feature set when the subscription service is officially rolled out.

In October, Bluesky [announced](https://mashable.com/article/bluesky-paid-subscription) its intentions to launch a subscription service while assuring users that the platform would continue to be free. Although recent activity on GitHub hints at progress, there remains no definite timeline or confirmed specifics regarding the subscription offering.

In reaction to the mockups, Bluesky software engineer Dan Abramov [shared](https://bsky.app/profile/danabra.mov/post/3lcogyfrij22c):
“[Just] noting that this is a UI mockup and the list of features may not correspond with what will actually be launched. [We] should improve in managing expectations through mockups since it’s open source, leading people to examine every branch.”

Abramov also reiterated Bluesky’s prior [commitment](https://bsky.social/about/blog/10-24-2024-series-a) that subscription perks would not entail prioritization or special verification, separating the platform from the model employed by Elon Musk’s X, where paying subscribers enjoy preferential treatment.

While the mockups provide a fascinating glimpse into what Bluesky+ could include, it’s evident that the final product is still under development. For now, users must wait for more definitive updates from the company.
