How *Nickel Boys* Utilizes First-Person Narration to Convey an Essential Narrative from a Distinct Point of View

RaMell Ross, the director of *Nickel Boys*, collaborates with Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Daveed Diggs, Ethan Herisse, and Brandon Wilson to investigate how they employed a first-person viewpoint with the camera to adapt Colson Whitehead’s celebrated novel, *The Nickel Boys*, for the screen.

This film, inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, explores the intense narrative of two boys in a reform school during the Jim Crow era in Florida. By embracing a first-person storytelling technique, the creative team sought to deeply engage viewers in the characters’ feelings and experiences, honoring the novel’s impactful narrative.

*Nickel Boys* is currently playing in select theaters.
