Don’t Be Surprised to Encounter eBay Listings on Facebook Marketplace

Meta may be on the verge of allowing users to explore eBay listings right on Facebook Marketplace.

The company revealed on Wednesday that it is trialing this functionality in Germany, France, and the U.S., as reported by *Bloomberg*. This trial will permit users to access eBay posts on Marketplace, but if they wish to place a bid, they will be taken to eBay’s website in a new tab.

This initiative comes after the European Commission slapped Meta with a €798 million fine two months ago for breaching antitrust laws. The Commission accused Meta of establishing “unfair trading conditions” with Facebook Marketplace, claiming it provided the company with a “notable distribution advantage,” as mentioned by *TechCrunch*. Although Meta is contesting the ruling, the company is rolling out updates like this eBay integration to mitigate the Commission’s worries, as highlighted by *Reuters*.

In a parallel action, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared on Tuesday that the company will substitute fact-checkers on Facebook and Instagram with Community Notes. This choice has faced backlash from experts, who claim it will worsen the proliferation of misinformation and disproportionately affect marginalized communities, including the LGBTQ+ population.

Therefore, while you might soon be able to find a mirror on eBay through Facebook Marketplace, it could come with a touch of controversy and misinformation.
