On Thursday, **X’s official Safety account** revealed that new labels for parody accounts are being implemented.
> “We’re introducing profile labels for parody accounts to effectively differentiate these types of accounts and their content on our platform,” the announcement indicated.
The platform clarified that these labels aim to improve transparency and help users avoid being misled into thinking parody accounts are connected to the organizations they imitate. These labels will be visible on both posts and profiles, clearly indicating the source of the content. **X** also noted that additional information about when these labels will become compulsory for parody accounts will be provided soon.
This initiative comes after a 2022 declaration from **Elon Musk**, who stated that parody accounts must explicitly identify themselves or risk permanent suspension. This policy was probably enacted in response to the confusion stemming from **X’s** choice to permit anyone to buy a blue checkmark, which muddied the distinctions between genuine and parody accounts.
