Seth Meyers, much like his late-night counterparts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, paused on Monday to ponder Donald Trump’s inauguration, specifically pointing out the tech billionaires who were present.
In his segment, Meyers showcased a photograph of the Silicon Valley magnates who made the guest list, including Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet and Google’s Sundar Pichai, and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. He underscored that the cold weather had necessitated moving the ceremony indoors to the Capitol rotunda, which left Trump supporters unable to attend in person. Instead, many braved the bitter cold outside, congregating in hopes of getting a spot at the Capital One Arena in downtown Washington.
“That’s correct,” Meyers noted, “MAGA supporters were excluded from the warmth while Trump allocated comfortable indoor VIP seating for affluent tech oligarchs. This leads us to a segment I enjoy calling, ‘Do I Really Have to Explain the Metaphor Here?'”
