Timothée Chalamet Mocks Dune Popcorn Bucket and Missing Awards in SNL Opener

Timothée Chalamet wore two hats as both host and musical guest for the most recent episode of *Saturday Night Live*, making it the inaugural show since Donald Trump was inaugurated as president—once more. Although Chalamet sidestepped any explicit references to Trump, he cleverly lampooned his distinctive dual role during his [opening monologue](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1ADw1VYXts).

This occasion marked Chalamet’s third engagement as host of *SNL*, but as he humorously pointed out, it was the first time he did so with his widely-discussed facial hair—or lack thereof. In his monologue, he referenced his role as Willy Wonka in the forthcoming *Wonka* film and his recent portrayal of Bob Dylan in *[A Complete Unknown](https://mashable.com/article/a-complete-unknown-review)*.

The actor also took a moment to chuckle at his own run-ins with the Academy Awards. Despite numerous nominations, Chalamet has yet to secure an Oscar. The program showcased clips of his responses at previous ceremonies when other nominees were revealed as winners.

“Just another solitary evening with my [*Dune* popcorn bucket](https://mashable.com/video/dune-2-sandworm-popcorn-bucket-test),” Chalamet quipped, before requesting the audience to indulge him in a daydream where he could finally present an acceptance speech.

To create the ambiance, he enlisted an audience member to announce a “winner.” But even in this lighthearted scenario, Chalamet comically lost—this time to *SNL* regular Kenan Thompson.
