Sheldon J. Plankton, the infamous frenemy of *SpongeBob SquarePants*, is finally taking the spotlight with his very own film, *Plankton: The Movie*, which is set to premiere on Netflix.

With Mr. Lawrence lending his voice, Plankton takes the lead in this fresh escapade, although SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny) and the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang remain key to the storyline — much to Plankton’s chagrin. The movie transports us back to the aquatic realm of Bikini Bottom, where Plankton’s relentless (and continuously fruitless) plots for global control have begun to strain his marriage with Karen, his supercomputer spouse (voiced by Jill Talley). Exasperated with his lack of success, Karen resolves to take charge, initiating her own quest for world domination. From the looks of the trailer, she appears to be much closer to achieving her goals than Plankton has ever been. Could this film also act as a subtle warning about the perils of artificial intelligence?

In a bid to save the world — and mend his relationship with Karen — Plankton is compelled to undertake the unimaginable: ally with SpongeBob, Patrick Star (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke), and Sandy Cheeks (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence). What results? A wild, comical adventure that even features a shocking “dashing Plankton” transformation.
