On Tuesday’s broadcast of *The Late Show*, Stephen Colbert targeted Elon Musk’s burgeoning impact on the federal government, likening it to a defective Tesla.
*”Elon managed to buy his way into government, and now he’s wrecking it like a Tesla in Self-Driving Mode,”* Colbert quipped during his monologue, lampooning the tech mogul’s assertive maneuvering in Washington politics.
In the past few weeks, Musk, who carries the title of *”special government employee,”* along with his team, has been asserting their dominance over several U.S. federal agencies. This includes securing access to government computer systems and focusing on USAID. Musk is now at the helm of the newly established **Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),** which is reportedly mainly comprised of recent college graduates.
One agency feeling the effects of Musk’s influence is the **Office of Personnel Management (OPM),** which acts as the HR department for the federal government.
*”You’re the wealthiest person on Earth! Do you really want to take charge of HR?”* Colbert joked. *”Why can’t you be a fun billionaire like Richard Branson? There he is kitesurfing with a naked woman on his back like a Jansport backpack. Or the Dyson guy? He invented a vacuum and now cultivates tasty strawberries.”*
Colbert concluded his criticism with a final quip: *”Elon, you could be the next Dyson — you never stop sucking.”*
