Planned Parenthood’s Instagram account unexpectedly erased all its previous posts on February 13, substituting them with an enigmatic Instagram story featuring eyeball emojis and a meme proclaiming, “I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”
The abrupt removal of content ignited rumors among advocates for reproductive rights and their opponents alike. Some, including the extremist group *Libs of TikTok*, speculated that the account had been compromised, particularly amid rising worries that social media platforms are suppressing abortion-related material. Others were concerned about the loss of critical health resources that had been shared on the page, while conservative commentators suggested that Planned Parenthood was shutting down in reaction to right-wing attempts to cut funding for the organization.
However, Planned Parenthood assured *Mashable* that the account was not compromised. Rather, the action was a calculated move to “break the internet” in celebration of National Condom Week, which spans from February 14-21.
“Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/plannedparenthood/) went dark temporarily as we prepared to commemorate National Condom Week,” the organization clarified in a statement. “Organizations and brands occasionally do this to unveil something new — it’s a common practice you’ve observed if you’ve spent any time on Beyoncé’s internet, but it caused some known adversaries of Planned Parenthood’s mission to [spiral](https://hotair.com/john-s-2/2025/02/13/planned-parenthood-just-deleted-all-of-its-instagram-posts-n3799808).”
As the foremost provider of sexual and reproductive health services in the nation, Planned Parenthood reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring individuals have access to the information, care, and condoms necessary for safe and healthy relationships.
The Instagram page has since been refreshed with two new posts: a collection of whimsical Valentine’s Day cards and a guide to “flirty ways” to suggest to a partner that they wear a condom. National Condom Week is a public awareness initiative that advocates for safe sex and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections.
“This National Condom Week, Planned Parenthood is honoring the importance of condoms in making sex safer and more enjoyable,” stated Julia Bennett, senior director of Digital Education & Learning Strategy at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “Condoms provide protection against STIs and unintended pregnancies, as well as alleviate stress or worry, allowing you to enjoy the fun part.”
The organization has confirmed that all prior Instagram posts will be reinstated after National Condom Week wraps up.
