**Reddit Set to Launch Paywalled Subreddits in 2024, CEO Affirms**

Reddit’s CEO, Steve Huffman, has announced that paywalled subreddits will be rolled out later this year.

During a [prerecorded video AMA](https://www.reddit.com/r/RDDT/comments/1ip2tf5/amaa_video_reddits_q4_2024_earnings/) (Ask Me Anything) on Friday, Reddit leadership responded to user inquiries about the company’s Q4 2024 financial performance and provided additional insights into their monetization strategies.

### Ongoing Monetization Initiatives

Huffman had earlier suggested the arrival of paid subreddits in August 2024, remarking that the platform seeks to “open the door for new use cases, novel types of subreddits that may host exclusive content or private spaces.”

In response to a question about the status of this project in the latest AMA, Huffman verified that it is still under development. “That one’s coming. We’re working on it as we speak,” he stated. He later reiterated that users can anticipate the launch of paid subreddits prior to the year’s end.

Since its inception in 2005, Reddit has maintained a stable structure. However, post its [IPO in 2023](https://mashable.com/article/reddit-ipo-stock-exchange-shares-public), the company made several notable changes aimed at boosting shareholder profits.

### Anticipations for Paid Subreddits

Although specific information about the paid subreddit framework is not fully clarified, the AMA indicated that Reddit is diligently investigating new revenue opportunities. Huffman also indicated plans for a marketplace where users could purchase products directly through the platform, although he characterized this as an objective for the future.

COO Jen Wong emphasized the significance of licensing agreements, particularly for AI chatbot offerings like Google Gemini and ChatGPT, as well as targeting “marketing intelligence and social listening” clients. Reddit has also rolled out its own AI chatbot, Reddit Answers, designed to gather information from the community’s input.

### Anticipated Changes Ahead

As Reddit continues to focus on monetization, users should brace themselves for further transformations—many of which could involve additional costs.
