Report indicates that OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 release is on the horizon—here’s what we have learned.

**OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 Is Approaching, Based on User Insights**

OpenAI seems to be preparing for the launch of GPT-4.5, as indicated by recent findings from users.

As reported by [BleepingComputer](https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/artificial-intelligence/openais-gpt-45-spotted-in-android-beta-launch-imminent/), numerous users have received prompts within the [ChatGPT](https://mashable.com/category/chatgpt) application encouraging them to “experience the GPT-4.5 research preview.” The notification also mentions, “Pro users now have access to our newest, largest model.” Although clicking the notification reportedly does not yield any action, its presence strongly suggests that GPT-4.5 is on the verge of release.

Software engineer Tibor Blaho further substantiated these assertions by sharing what looks like a screenshot of code from the ChatGPT beta app on Android, bolstering the rumors regarding the upcoming launch.

### **Insights on GPT-4.5**

The introduction of GPT-4.5 had already been expected, as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had previously alluded to its development. In a recent [update](https://x.com/sama/status/1889755723078443244) on X, Altman indicated that OpenAI aims to enhance transparency concerning its roadmap and streamline its product offerings. He noted that GPT-4.5 would be available in a matter of weeks, with GPT-5 following shortly thereafter—aligning with the current indications of GPT-4.5’s forthcoming launch.

Internally referred to as “Orion,” GPT-4.5 will be OpenAI’s last model prior to the shift towards “chain-of-thought” reasoning models. These sophisticated models are intended to deconstruct prompts into multi-step tasks, thus improving their capability to produce detailed and accurate responses. Future updates will incorporate OpenAI’s o-series reasoning features into a more unified ChatGPT experience, moving away from the present fragmented assortment, which includes GPT-4o, GPT-40 with scheduled tasks, o1, o3-mini, and o3-mini-high.

For the time being, GPT-4.5 will be accessible to ChatGPT Pro users who pay $200 monthly for early access to new functionalities. However, it is still uncertain whether ChatGPT Plus subscribers will also gain entry.

Altman has affirmed that the free version of ChatGPT will eventually get GPT-5, raising the possibility that OpenAI may extend similar access to GPT-4.5. This could be a strategic decision, considering the mounting competition from xAI’s [Grok 3](https://mashable.com/article/grok-3-versus-chatgpt-deepseek-ai-rivals-comparison) and [DeepSeek](https://mashable.com/category/deepseek) models, which are swiftly gaining popularity.
