Apple’s Total Siri Revamp Might Be Postponed Until 2027

Apple’s long-awaited Siri revamp might not be unveiled until 2027, based on recent reports.

**Siri’s Setbacks and Apple’s AI Challenges**

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has disclosed that Apple is considerably lagging in enhancing its voice assistant. He indicates that a more sophisticated, conversational Siri may not reach users until iOS 20 at the earliest. The gradual and occasionally postponed introduction of **Apple Intelligence** features has already indicated Apple’s challenges in providing a Siri experience that matches OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Gurman characterizes Apple as undergoing an “AI crisis,” confronting a pivotal juncture where it must fulfill high anticipations or risk losing its market advantage.

**Siri’s Gradual Enhancements**

Although Siri is progressing, the pace has been sluggish. The forthcoming iOS 18.5 update is anticipated to enable Siri to utilize users’ personal data for tailored responses and execute tasks across various apps. Nevertheless, Siri’s present capabilities remain disjointed, depending on a combination of older systems for fundamental commands and a more sophisticated model for Apple Intelligence functions.

Apple intended to consolidate these systems under “LLM Siri” in time for iOS 18, but that target was not met. The company then set its sights on launching LLM Siri with iOS 19 during WWDC in June, but this update is now reportedly postponed as well. Consequently, iOS 19 may lack substantial Apple Intelligence advancements, pushing the debut of LLM Siri to iOS 20.

**Apple Intelligence’s Lackluster Performance**

The delays contribute to an already unsatisfactory rollout of Apple Intelligence, which, according to Gurman, has experienced “extremely low” engagement. Existing Apple Intelligence features encompass AI-driven writing tools, voicemail and audio transcriptions, custom emojis (Genmoji), and Image Playground for AI-crafted images. While these offerings provide some novelty, they have yet to prove vital for users.

Apple Intelligence also delivers AI-generated summaries of notifications, messages, and emails. However, some users have labeled these summaries as **inaccurate and occasionally misleading**. One notable instance involved Apple Intelligence incorrectly stating that a suspect in a high-profile case had shot himself, prompting Apple to **halt AI-generated news summaries**.

**The Competition Intensifies**

In the meantime, Amazon has launched **Alexa+**, an enhanced edition of its voice assistant showcasing conversational AI, third-party app integration, and sophisticated automation—features Apple likely aspires to include with Siri. With rivals advancing in AI, Apple faces pressure to catch up and provide a genuinely intelligent Siri.
