**YouTube Enhances Regulations on Gambling Content**
Content related to gambling has been increasingly widespread on the internet, with promotions for betting platforms turning up in viral clips that are not about gambling. In light of this, YouTube is introducing more stringent guidelines to oversee such content.
In a recent [policy update](https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/328728041?hl=en), YouTube declared that it is “reinforcing our existing rules regarding online gambling content” to “safeguard viewers from potentially damaging content.”
### Major Updates to YouTube’s Gambling Guidelines
The most notable change implements a new age limitation. According to the updated policy, online gambling content will be restricted from users who are either logged out or under 18 years of age. However, YouTube has made provisions for online sports betting content and videos showcasing in-person gambling, which will not be affected by this limitation.
Historically, YouTube forbade creators from endorsing gambling websites or applications unless the platforms had received certification from Google. These certified gambling sites are required to adhere to local legal standards. Now, YouTube is extending this guideline—creators are not allowed to direct viewers to gambling-related URLs, incorporated links, visual representations (like logos), or even spoken mentions unless the gambling service has been sanctioned by Google.
Moreover, any gambling content that promises “guaranteed returns” may be removed, regardless of whether the gambling platform being marketed is certified.
