Elon Musk announced on Monday that X faced a “significant cyberattack,” which resulted in the platform experiencing multiple crashes throughout the day.
In response to a speculation about an attack on X, Musk confirmed its occurrence. He stated, “There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against 𝕏. We are attacked every day, but this involved substantial resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a nation is implicated. Tracing …”
Nevertheless, Musk did not provide any proof to substantiate his assertion that X was under attack. His credibility as a source has been challenged previously—such as during an incident when he claimed that a Spaces interview with then-candidate Donald Trump was interrupted by an attack in August 2024, a statement that was later denied by X employees.
Regardless of the underlying cause, X initially experienced outages for many users early Monday morning (Eastern Time). Reports from [Down Detector](https://downdetector.com/status/twitter/) indicated that the platform seemed to recover and crash again repeatedly throughout the day. By Monday afternoon, most problems appeared to have been addressed.
Musk himself promptly returned to posting, including [comments](https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1899164217900761309) that touched on conspiracy theories aimed at his perceived rivals—implying that, for him, everything had returned to normal.
