What Is Connections?

Connections is the latest daily word game from The New York Times that has taken social media by storm. Created with the collaboration of associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu, the game invites players to identify the common link among clusters of four words. It’s accessible on both web browsers and mobile devices.

Each puzzle displays 16 words. What’s your mission? Organize them into four groups of four, with each group having a shared theme. These themes can range from literature titles and technology terms to athletics and geography. But tread carefully—some words may appear to fit together, even when they do not. There is only one correct arrangement.

When you successfully group four words, they vanish from the board. Make an incorrect guess, and it counts as an error. You’re allowed up to four errors before the game concludes.

To assist in identifying patterns, you can rearrange the board. Each group is color-coded by difficulty level: yellow is the easiest, followed by green, blue, and finally purple, which represents the most difficult. And just like Wordle, you can share your results with friends on social media.
