Nintendo Switch 2 U.S. Pre-Orders Postponed Indefinitely Due to Tariff Issues
For the last couple of days, gamers in the United States were preparing for the eagerly awaited pre-order debut of the Nintendo Switch 2, initially set for April 9. However, those arrangements have now been altered.
In an unexpected update on Friday morning, Nintendo released a statement to the media affirming that the pre-order date of April 9 has been deferred indefinitely. The reason for the delay is linked to the new tariff policies introduced by the Trump administration. The complete statement from Nintendo reads:
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not commence April 9, 2025 to evaluate the potential effects of tariffs and changing market dynamics. Nintendo will provide timing updates at a later point. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains the same.”

Currently, there is no revised date for the start of pre-orders in the U.S. It is also uncertain whether this postponement may result in a price hike or other modifications to the console’s release plan. This announcement follows closely on the heels of Nintendo revealing the $450 starting price for the Switch 2 and confirming the April 9 pre-order timeline.
The delay is a consequence of President Trump’s extensive new tariffs, announced Wednesday, which target nearly every significant trading partner. Vietnam, where Nintendo has shifted a large portion of its Switch manufacturing in recent years to sidestep tariffs on Chinese production, is one of the impacted countries.
We will keep track of the unfolding situation and share updates as more information becomes available regarding U.S. pre-orders and any potential effects on pricing.
