Trump Delays TikTok Ban by 75 Days

It appears that TikTok has obtained a temporary stay—at least for the time being.

Just one day prior to the implementation of a U.S. ban on the widely-used social media application, the Trump administration confirmed a 75-day postponement, affording TikTok a little more leeway to operate within the United States. Although this does not guarantee the app’s long-term security, users can be reassured that TikTok will remain available until June 19.

“My Administration has been making significant efforts to negotiate a Deal to SAVE TIKTok, and we have achieved substantial progress,” former President Donald Trump stated in a post on TruthSocial. “The Deal necessitates further work to secure all essential approvals, which is why I am enacting an Executive Order to keep TikTok functioning for an extra 75 days.”

Initially, TikTok was scheduled to face a ban on Saturday, April 5, unless it adhered to a Supreme Court decision mandating the app to disassociate from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. Numerous American individuals, firms, and investment groups have shown interest in acquiring TikTok, but no definitive agreement has been reached as of yet.

In his TruthSocial post, Trump also discussed wider trade issues, declaring, “We aim to continue engaging in Good Faith with China, who I understand are not exceptionally pleased about our Reciprocal Tariffs (Essential for Fair and Balanced Trade between China and the U.S.A.!). This demonstrates that Tariffs are the most formidable Economic instrument, and crucial for our National Security! We do not wish for TikTok to ‘go dark.’ We are eager to collaborate with TikTok and China to finalize the Deal.”

Trump conveyed optimism that a solution could be achieved before the initial deadline and now believes that the 75-day extension will afford the necessary time to conclude a deal. For the time being, TikTok remains accessible to U.S. users—at least for the upcoming couple of months.
