iPadOS 19 Might Signal Apple’s Newest Effort to Enhance the iPad’s Mac-Like Features

Apple is once more merging the distinctions between the iPad and the Mac.

As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (via MacRumors), Apple is gearing up for a significant upgrade to iPadOS—version 19—which will concentrate on three primary aspects: productivity, multitasking, and app window management. Although specifics are scarce, the objective is evident: to align the iPad experience more closely with that of macOS.

This marks not Apple’s first initiative to connect its tablet and desktop operating systems. The company has consistently sought to fuse the portability and touch interface of the iPad with the power and versatility of the Mac. Nevertheless, achieving that ideal equilibrium has been challenging.

A prominent advancement in this regard was the launch of Stage Manager in 2022. This feature improved multitasking on the iPad by enabling users to resize and arrange app windows with greater ease. However, it still didn’t fully replicate the fluid workflow that macOS users benefit from. Frequently mentioned limitations of iPadOS consist of its less comprehensive file management system and the absence of support for multiple user profiles on a single device.

This forthcoming iPadOS update is not occurring in a vacuum. Apple is also rumored to be planning a substantial redesign for iOS 19. All attention will be on WWDC 2025, starting on June 9, where Apple is anticipated to reveal iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16. If the speculation holds, it could be one of the most significant developer conferences in recent times.
