Aimee Lou Wood Condemns SNL Sketch as “Cruel and Unamusing”
The star of The White Lotus, Aimee Lou Wood, has voiced her disapproval of a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch that spoofed her character, labeling it as “cruel and unamusing.”
Wood, who plays Chelsea in Season 3 of the HBO series, discussed the sketch in a number of Instagram stories shared on Sunday. The segment, named “The White Potus,” was broadcast during Saturday’s SNL episode and included cast members mimicking political figures in the manner of White Lotus characters. However, comedian Sarah Sherman’s depiction of Wood’s character was particularly notable — she was seen with oversized fake teeth, embodying a caricature of Chelsea.
Within the sketch, Jon Hamm, portraying RFK Jr./Rick, makes a remark about eliminating fluoride from drinking water to observe its impact on people’s teeth. The camera subsequently shifts to Sherman’s character, who cluelessly inquires, “What’s fluoride?”
In response to the sketch, Wood stated: “While being honest — I did find the SNL skit cruel and unamusing. Such a shame because I genuinely enjoyed watching it a couple of weeks back. Yes, satirize for sure – that’s the essence of the show – but there must be a more intelligent, nuanced, less superficial way to do it.”
She later informed her followers that she received an apology from SNL. “I am not sensitive,” Wood specified. “I truly enjoy being made fun of when it’s clever and done in good humor. But the joke was about fluoride. I have prominent gap teeth, not poor teeth. I don’t mind caricature — I realize that’s what SNL specializes in. However, the remainder of the skit was directed upward, and I/Chelsea was the sole target of downward humor.”
Mashable has reached out to NBC for a statement.
