Another week arrives, presenting a fresh surge of speculation surrounding Apple’s eagerly awaited foldable iPhone.
While leaks regarding the iPhone are commonplace, recent information is giving credence to the notion that a foldable iPhone might soon be unveiled. The latest chatter includes fresh insights about its camera configuration and a potential return of Touch ID.
As reported by 9To5Mac, the South Korean blog yeux1122—renowned for monitoring conversations on the Chinese social media site Weibo—asserts that Apple’s foldable iPhone will come equipped with a punch-hole camera on its external display. The internal display is rumored to measure 7.76 inches with a resolution of 2713 x 1920 pixels, whereas the external display is said to be 5.49 inches with a resolution of 2088 x 1422 pixels. These specifications echo those of current foldable devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the forthcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
The punch-hole camera speculation aligns with a prior report from prominent Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who indicated that the foldable iPhone might replace Face ID with a Touch ID sensor embedded in the side button—similar to what is available on the iPad Air. This change is believed to stem from the spatial and thickness constraints of the foldable design, making it challenging to incorporate the necessary hardware for Face ID.
In comparison, Apple’s primary rivals in the foldable market—Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6—do provide facial recognition technology, though users have mentioned that it isn’t always dependable.
Should Apple decide on Touch ID, it could also imply that the foldable iPhone probably won’t include the Dynamic Island—a pill-shaped cutout introduced in recent iPhone iterations for swift app access and notifications.
Discussions about foldable iPhones and iPads have been ongoing for years, often leaving fans let down when they do not come to fruition. Nonetheless, this time the rumors appear to have more substance. Both Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman—two trusted sources for Apple information—have indicated a potential launch timeframe as soon as late 2026.
As usual, it’s prudent to approach these leaks with caution. However, the increasing number of detailed reports might suggest that Apple’s foldable future is indeed starting to take form.
