Spotify’s iPhone Application Now Allows You to Select Your Desired Payment Method

Spotify’s iPhone App Now Features New Payment Methods in the U.S., Thanks to Legal Ruling

Spotify subscribers in the U.S. can now experience enhanced flexibility and potential savings when managing their subscriptions via the iPhone app. This adjustment arises following a pivotal court ruling related to the Epic Games vs. Apple antitrust case.

A judge in California recently determined that Apple must permit third-party app developers to direct users to external payment services. In light of this, Spotify presented an updated iteration of its iPhone app, which Apple greenlit on Friday.

In a blog entry celebrating the update, Spotify remarked, “In a win for consumers, artists, creators, and authors, Apple has accepted Spotify’s U.S. app update. After nearly ten years, this will at last enable us to freely present clear pricing details and links for purchase, promoting transparency and choice for U.S. consumers. We can now provide consumers with lower prices, enhanced control, and more straightforward access to the Spotify experience.”

With the updated app version, Spotify can now showcase detailed pricing for all subscription levels, including promotional deals that may assist users in saving money. Furthermore, users can more easily change between subscription varieties and utilize alternative payment options besides those provided by Apple.

Previously, Spotify faced limitations in informing users that they could discover more affordable subscription alternatives by purchasing directly through Spotify’s website. The company criticized the postponement in executing these changes, stating, “The reality that we haven’t been able to offer these fundamental services, which were authorized by the judge’s order four years ago, is ridiculous.”

Spotify is not the only one capitalizing on the court’s ruling. Other firms, like Epic Games and Patreon, have also filed updated iPhone apps that feature new payment methods, indicating a wider transformation in how developers can engage with users on Apple’s platform.
