Big-screen users, celebrate — Microsoft is at last enhancing the Windows 11 Start menu with a much-needed size boost.
As per an official blog entry shared on Tuesday, Microsoft is overhauling the Start menu in Windows 11 to expand its size and functionality. The revamped design not only provides users with increased workspace but also unveils a new arrangement that categorizes apps according to their usage frequency. This ensures faster access to your most-used applications, directly from the Start menu.
Furthermore, Microsoft is introducing a new phone companion functionality. When you link your iPhone or Android device to your PC, a sidebar will appear in the Start menu showcasing contact details and other pertinent information from your phone.
This Start menu overhaul is merely a component of a larger suite of updates that Microsoft is implementing. Among the key features: AI-driven enhancements, including an intelligent assistant integrated right into the Settings menu. For those with Copilot+ PCs, this AI entity can assist in automating tasks. Simply input a straightforward request like “I want to make my mouse pointer bigger,” and the assistant will take care of it.
These modifications to the Start menu were initially identified in April by The Verge and are projected to be released over the next month. Microsoft also seized this chance to introduce two new Surface devices enabled with Copilot, delivering powerful performance at a more accessible price.
Let’s face it — the old Start menu was inadequate for today’s larger screens. With this enhancement, Microsoft is finally providing it with the room it needs.
