Exciting news for enthusiasts of The Office! Peacock has officially provided fresh insights regarding its forthcoming spinoff of the legendary workplace comedy — including its designation.
Named The Paper, the new series is being crafted by Greg Daniels, the creative mind behind the U.S. adaptation of The Office, alongside Michael Koman, recognized for his contributions to Nathan for You, Girls5eva, and How To with John Wilson.
Here’s all we’ve gathered so far about The Paper — from its plot to returning cast members and beyond.
What’s The Paper About?
Although The Paper is set in the same universe as The Office, it won’t be revisiting Scranton, Pennsylvania. Instead, the narrative moves to Toledo, Ohio, where the documentary team that previously captured life at Dunder Mifflin is now on the hunt for their next significant story.
As per Peacock’s official synopsis, the crew discovers a struggling historic newspaper in the Midwest and the determined publisher attempting to revive it with the assistance of volunteer reporters.
Which Characters from The Office Are Returning?
Oscar Nuñez has been confirmed to reprise his role as Oscar Martinez in The Paper. He made the announcement during NBCUniversal’s 2025 upfront presentation. Currently, he is the sole original cast member confirmed to return — a fitting selection, given his character’s background in a paper company.
Who Else Is in the Cast?
The Paper boasts a robust ensemble cast led by Domhnall Gleeson (About Time, Ex Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus). Gleeson portrays Ned, the publisher of the newspaper who recruits volunteer reporters to help salvage the publication.
Joining them are Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and, of course, Oscar Nuñez.
Is There a Trailer Yet?
There isn’t a trailer available at this time, but Peacock has shared a first-look image from the show. The image features Gleeson motivating his newsroom, with Oscar visible in the background — offering fans a glimpse of the new office dynamic. Will this workplace match Dunder Mifflin’s chaotic allure? Only time will reveal.
When Will The Paper Premiere?
The Paper is set to launch in September 2025. While a specific release date has yet to be disclosed, fans can anticipate more updates as the premiere nears.
Update: As of May 12, 2025, this article has been refreshed with the most recent information regarding The Paper’s release.
