TikTok is Currently Facing an Outage

If you’re experiencing difficulties loading or viewing videos on TikTok, you’re certainly not alone.

So, is TikTok experiencing issues? All indicators suggest it is.

Starting around 4:08 p.m. EST on May 15, users began to report problems with the TikTok application, as noted by the outage monitoring site Down Detector. (Note: Both Mashable and Down Detector are subsidiaries of Ziff Davis.) By 5 p.m. EST, more than 33,000 users had filed error reports.

When Mashable tried to access TikTok during the disruption, some videos would load, but not consistently. More frequently, the app displayed loading screens and struggled to refresh appropriately.

Meanwhile, exasperated users took to X (previously known as Twitter) to voice their frustrations, although many tweets regarding the outage seem to have been deleted or are not currently accessible.

At this time, the reason behind the problem remains uncertain. TikTok has yet to provide a response to Mashable’s request for a statement.

We will update this article as more details emerge. In the meantime, you can monitor Down Detector for real-time updates and user feedback.

While TikTok faced a temporary ban in the U.S. earlier this year, there is no evidence to suggest that this current outage is connected to that political circumstance.
