Tesla Cybertruck No Longer the Top-Selling Electric Pickup Truck

The Inventory of Tesla Cybertrucks Continues to Increase as Sales Fall

That expanding number of unsold Tesla Cybertrucks accumulating in parking lots? It’s only getting bigger.

Regardless of its divisive design and a series of frequent recalls, the Tesla Cybertruck once claimed the title of America’s leading all-electric pickup truck. But that’s no longer the case.

According to data from S&P Global Mobility (as reported by InsideEVs), Tesla recorded 7,126 Cybertrucks in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2025. This places it behind the Ford F-150 Lightning, which achieved 7,913 registrations in the same timeframe. Following the Cybertruck are the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Rivian R1T, and the GMC Hummer EV.

Tesla does not disclose sales figures for individual models, but another source indicates that Ford moved 7,181 units of the F-150 Lightning in Q1 2025 — still enough to surpass the Cybertruck.

This decline in Cybertruck sales is even more pronounced when viewed against past quarters. In Q4 2024, Tesla recorded 12,991 Cybertrucks, and in Q3 2024, that figure was 16,692. This represents two consecutive quarters of decreasing sales. Tesla has recently introduced a more economical Long Range variant of the Cybertruck, but it is uncertain if this will change the negative trend.

While Ford can proudly assert a narrow win in electric truck sales, the F-150 Lightning’s numbers are modest when seen in a larger context. The company sold a total of 183,202 F-series trucks in Q1 2025, underscoring that electric pickups continue to represent a small percentage of total truck sales. The struggles of the segment are exacerbated by public relations issues, including CEO Elon Musk’s controversial actions, which may be alienating potential buyers.

At present, the Cybertruck is only accessible in the U.S., but Tesla’s difficulties extend beyond American borders. The company is facing a global downturn in sales and is relying on an updated Model Y — its top-selling vehicle — to help pivot the situation. So far, however, initial signs suggest that a recovery might not be forthcoming.
