What Is Connections?

Connections is a daily word game from The New York Times that has taken social networks by storm. With contributions from associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu, the game challenges players to figure out four sets of four words that share a common theme.

You can engage with Connections via your browser or mobile device. Each puzzle presents 16 words, and your objective is to categorize them into four themed groups. The themes can vary from pop culture nods to scientific terms or even food types. Stay vigilant — while some words might appear to fit together, only one arrangement is correct.

When you successfully identify a group, those words will vanish from the board. An incorrect guess counts as a strike. You can make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

To aid you, the board can be shuffled, which may help in spotting patterns more easily. Each category is indicated by color to signify difficulty: yellow is the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple — the most challenging of them all. Similar to Wordle, you have the option to share your results with others online.
