What Is Connections: Sports Edition?
The New York Times has collaborated with The Athletic—its sports-centric outlet—to introduce this sports-themed adaptation of Connections. Accessible on both web and mobile platforms, the game offers players 16 words. Your mission? Organize them into four sets of four words that share a common thread.
Each group belongs to a specific category, which could span from sports teams and athletes to wider themes like geography or pop culture. While multiple words may appear to match, only one correct combination exists for each group.
Make a successful guess, and those four words vanish from the board. Make an error, and it counts against your total—you’re permitted up to four mistakes before the game concludes.
To make spotting connections simpler, you can shuffle the board. Each group is also color-coded by difficulty: yellow (easiest), green, blue, and purple (hardest). After completing the puzzle, you can share your results with friends, just like Wordle.
