Adrien Brody Takes Home the Best Actor Award for *The Brutalist* at the 2025 Academy Awards

**Adrien Brody Claims Best Actor Oscar for *The Brutalist***

Adrien Brody has secured the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in *The Brutalist*, where he embodies the fictional Jewish Hungarian architect László Tóth.

This achievement marks Brody’s second Oscar victory, following his 2003 win for *The Pianist*, in which he portrayed Wladyslaw Szpilman. His interpretation of Tóth has drawn parallels to that previous performance. As critic Siddhant Adlakha mentions in his *Mashable* review of *The Brutalist*, “There isn’t a moment where [Brody] isn’t delving into the depths of his being, tapping into either his past roles (like in *The Pianist*) or his mother’s experience as a Hungarian Jewish woman who had to escape her homeland in the 1950s.”

Brody’s accolades this awards season transcended the Oscars, as he also took home the BAFTA, Critics Choice Award, and Golden Globe for his performance. He outperformed fellow nominees Timothée Chalamet (*A Complete Unknown*), Colman Domingo (*Sing Sing*), Ralph Fiennes (*Conclave*), and Sebastian Stan (*The Apprentice*).

During his nearly six-minute acceptance speech—where he brushed off the playoff music by asserting, “not my first rodeo”—Brody expressed fervently about the themes present in his work. “I’m here once more to highlight the lingering traumas and the impacts of war and systemic oppression, along with antisemitism and racism and othering,” he stated. “I wish for a healthier, happier, and more inclusive world.”
