AI Artists Remake Squid Game Series Conclusion

Was the series finale of the well-known South Korean Netflix series Squid Game fulfilling?

Viewpoints differ, yet numerous viewers considered the conclusion unsatisfactory. The disappointment stemmed not only from unresolved narrative elements but also from the characters being placed in an especially dire predicament.

For some, this provided a chance to utilize Google’s Veo 3 to craft a completely different ending.

Spoilers ahead, but the conclusion of Squid Game Season 3 is grim. This season, similar to the last, concentrated on the struggle between Gi-hun and the Frontman (Lee Byung-hun), ultimately aligning with the Frontman’s nihilistic perspective. In the finale, Gi-hun faces a choice between saving himself or sacrificing everything to safeguard Player 222’s baby during the final game. He opts for the latter, giving up his life for the infant — a CGI creation — to survive.

Viewers were dissatisfied.

Fanfiction and alternative endings are not a novel concept, but employing AI to visualize them is still a fresh and unusual approach. On TikTok and Instagram, creators utilizing Google Veo 3 have been developing new interpretations of the finale. Some show Gi-hun kicking the CGI baby from a platform; others illustrate Player 222 surviving the Jump Rope game and raising her child. There’s even one where Gi-hun engages in a knife fight with the baby. It’s disturbing content.

The Squid Game conclusion itself has incited considerable debate, especially regarding how prolonging the series beyond its inaugural season may weaken the show’s original critique of capitalism. Yet, there is also an increasing trend of employing AI to “repair” narratives intentionally designed to unsettle audiences.

Are these AI-generated videos to be taken seriously? Not particularly. But they suggest a future where anyone can effortlessly adjust a narrative to align with their own tastes.

Whether this is thrilling or disconcerting relies on your viewpoint on the game itself.
