Amazon Allegedly Submits Last-Minute Offer to Purchase TikTok Before U.S. Ban Deadline
TikTok might be on the verge of having a new owner — potentially Amazon.
As per a report from The New York Times shared on Wednesday, Amazon has made an offer to buy TikTok mere days before the application could potentially be banned in the United States. The deadline for the sale is set for April 5, a date established by President Donald Trump following an extension granted to the Chinese-owned platform when he took office.
Nevertheless, the Times indicates that Amazon’s proposal might not be the most practical. Insiders familiar with the discussions have informed the outlet that many involved in the negotiations are not giving serious consideration to Amazon’s bid. The proposal was allegedly presented in a letter directed to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, according to a source who was briefed about the situation.
The imminent deadline has ignited significant interest from prospective buyers. Other reported contenders include Oracle, Microsoft, Project Liberty, and various prominent billionaires.
In a message on Bluesky, The New York Times validated the report, stating: “Amazon made a last-minute bid to acquire all of TikTok as the app approaches an April deadline to be sold by its Chinese owner or face a ban in the U.S., people familiar with the offer said.”
