Amazon’s Alexa has won the Mashable Readers’ Choice Award

Amazon’s Alexa is a key player in discussions about smart homes. By 2025, the number of Amazon Echo users is expected to hit 69.9 million, and by 2024, the Echo is anticipated to remain the top smart speaker in the U.S., based on information from Electro IQ.

In our reader survey regarding smart home products, Amazon’s Alexa emerged as a leading choice for smart assistants.

How Mashable readers evaluate Amazon Alexa

In our Readers’ Choice Smartest Home survey, participants rated their Amazon Alexa devices from 1 to 10 (with 10 being the highest) on various aspects such as voice recognition, smart home control, and programmable features. Feedback from Alexa users

Mashable readers consider their Alexa devices easy to use and dependable. “In general, I have found the Alexa system to be 99.9 percent dependable. Occasionally, it fails to execute a command to turn a light on or off. Its answers to queries outside of general knowledge aren’t as robust (Google outperforms it), but they are satisfactory for most everyday activities,” one user mentioned.

A frequent challenge is Alexa’s unpredictable voice recognition, at times responding without prompt or not responding at all. Nevertheless, users commended Alexa’s compatibility with various smart home devices.

“I’ve had a positive experience with Amazon Alexa,” another user remarked. “Connecting my smart home devices with Alexa was straightforward, linking everything from lights to thermostats and smart plugs. I could manage everything with voice commands, such as dimming lights or adjusting the temperature, which was particularly handy when my hands were occupied.”

Others noted the enhancements and improvements in user experience: “One amusing aspect of Alexa is that it replies at the same volume I use. If I whisper a command, it whispers back. That’s a thoughtful UX feature I didn’t anticipate.”

Amazon Alexa received a score of 7.8 on our 10-point scale for the likelihood of respondents recommending the brand. One survey respondent, who rated Alexa a 9 in overall satisfaction and recommendation likelihood, stated, “I would endorse and plan to buy more Amazon Echo devices in the future.”
