A significant social media management application has eliminated Elon Musk’s X, previously known as Twitter, from its services. Subsequently, with millions of users that include brands such as GoPro and the Dallas Mavericks, it officially ceased X support on its Later Social platform. The organization halted new X account integrations last month and concluded X support on August 28. Previously, users of Later Social could schedule X posts, track discussions, and analyze metrics. “Indeed, we’ve discontinued support for X on Later Social,” the company announced. “Our focus is on influencer marketing and the social platforms that align best with that objective.” X is the sole platform that has been removed, while Later Social continues to back Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Snapchat.
Changes to X’s API are prompting businesses to distance themselves. The timing of Later’s withdrawal coincides with Musk’s company contacting developers regarding another modification in API pricing. Prior to Musk’s takeover, Twitter provided developers with a complimentary API. Following the acquisition, the company curtailed the free access, compelling developers to either eliminate integration or subscribe to an Enterprise API plan costing between $42,000 and $210,000 monthly. X subsequently introduced additional fees, such as a $1 charge for each account linked to the API. Now, X intends to take a percentage of API customers’ revenue.
Mashable covered these developments in June after Make, a no-code automation platform, withdrew X integration due to updated API regulations and pricing. Later joins firms like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo in discontinuing X following Musk’s API pricing alterations.
