Apple Aims for AI-Powered Smart Home Growth Featuring Robots, Report States

The iPhone 17 is anticipated to debut in early September, ushering in a flurry of Apple speculation, news, and possible leaks, although many seem inconsequential. Nonetheless, when Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman provides an update, it merits attention.

Gurman reveals that Apple is intending to make a substantial foray into the smart home sector with AI-driven smart speakers, security cameras, and an Apple robot. This “tabletop robot” is said to have the appearance of an iPad affixed to a movable arm.

These upcoming gadgets would incorporate a more conversational AI iteration of Siri, designed to engage with users and execute tasks. Reports from the New York Times and Bloomberg suggest that creating an AI version of Siri has proven difficult for Apple, which has fallen behind in the AI competition.

While Google, Meta, and OpenAI progress with their AI frameworks and products, Apple’s generative AI capabilities are confined to limited Apple Intelligence functions on select devices. For iOS 26, Apple is set to partner with OpenAI’s GPT-5 model.

Bloomberg indicates that Apple is strategizing a comeback in AI, with the tabletop robot as a pivotal component. These AI-driven smart home products might be unveiled in 2027, according to Gurman and industry insiders at Apple.

In the realm of smart homes, Apple has achieved some measure of success with Apple TV streaming systems and HomePod smart speakers, yet Amazon and Google remain the leaders in this domain.

Apple could establish itself as a formidable contender in this field, owing to its brand allegiance, widely adopted operating systems, and unique product aesthetics. However, AI devices have encountered a tumultuous reception from consumers, and a tabletop robot might not be adequate to navigate the AI landscape.
