Apple Has Finally Introduced CarPlay Ultra — However, It May Not Be Available to You

Apple’s CarPlay Has Just Received a Significant Update — But Most Users Can’t Access It Yet

Apple’s CarPlay has been in existence for over ten years, and it is finally undergoing its most substantial update in years. In a recent announcement, Apple officially introduced CarPlay Ultra — a feature that was first hinted at back in 2022. Many Apple fans had begun to question if it would ever become available, but it has arrived at last.

CarPlay Ultra is a more sophisticated version of the in-car software, providing several new functionalities. However, there’s a twist: at this moment, it is only offered in new Aston Martin vehicles sold in the U.S. and Canada. Existing Aston Martin models equipped with the required hardware will get the upgrade through a software update in the coming weeks. Apple has also confirmed that Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia intend to incorporate CarPlay Ultra in the future.

This means that only a limited number of drivers will have the opportunity to experience CarPlay Ultra anytime soon — a disappointment, given how beneficial it appears to be.

The key feature of CarPlay Ultra is its capability to take control of every screen in the vehicle, not just the principal infotainment display. This enables drivers to view items like navigation directions, music controls, and additional interface components on the dashboard behind the steering wheel — right next to the speedometer and fuel gauge. The goal is to simplify access to essential information without diverting attention from the road.

Apple has also mentioned that it is collaborating with automotive manufacturers to create custom visual themes tailored for each vehicle brand. Thankfully, the wait for wider availability should not be too extended — Apple states that CarPlay Ultra will roll out to more vehicles globally within the next 12 months.
