Apple HomePod Specifications Revealed in Recent Leak

Apple’s highly awaited smart home accessory, commonly known as the HomePad, is becoming more concrete. Macworld received “leaked internal Apple code,” highlighting several references to the upcoming device, although its name has not been confirmed. In a pre-release iOS 26 version, this smart home hub is referred to by the codename J490. It boasts Apple’s A18 chip and a front-facing, ultra-wide camera featuring Center Stage, limited to 1080p video, akin to iPads and Macs.

Significantly, the device will incorporate Face ID biometrics for user identification and profile configurations. Apple Intelligence will also be embedded, providing a more advanced Siri capable of engaging in natural conversations. The device is anticipated in 2026, although prior speculations indicated a spring launch.

Macworld also uncovered indications of another new smart home product, codenamed J229. Information is limited, but it encompasses multiple sensors and a built-in camera, classified as an accessory rather than an independent device.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had earlier indicated that Apple is working on an in-home security camera and a smart doorbell with facial recognition, intended to function alongside the smart home hub. The new device may be connected, but it’s expected to debut later, likely by the end of next year.
