Apple leaks frequently feature in tech news, but one leaker might have overstepped a boundary, according to Apple. The corporation is pursuing legal action against Jon Prosser for purportedly acquiring confidential information regarding iOS 26, as detailed by The Verge. This upcoming mobile OS, formerly identified as iOS 19 prior to its official unveiling at WWDC earlier this year, appeared in multiple articles on Prosser’s YouTube channels, which successfully predicted significant redesigns of iPhone applications before the official reveal.
In its lawsuit, Apple asserts that “The Defendants here colluded to breach an Apple employee’s development iPhone to seize Apple’s trade secrets.” Apple specifically charges Prosser with conspiring alongside Michael Ramacciotti. The legal filing states that Prosser supposedly agreed to facilitate payment for Ramacciotti if he provided access to a corporate phone owned by an Apple employee named Ethan Lipnik. Ramacciotti, who allegedly maintained a cordial rapport with Lipnik, is said to have gained access to the corporate phone operating a development version of the upcoming iOS and relayed new features to Prosser via video call. These insights were reportedly utilized for Prosser’s articles.
Prosser has refuted these allegations on X, remarking, “For the record: This is not how the situation unfolded on my side. Fortunately, I have documentation to support that. I did not ‘conspire’ to access anyone’s phone. I didn’t have any passwords. I was not aware of how the information was acquired. Eager to discuss this with Apple.”
Apple is pursuing compensation and a judicial order to bar Prosser from revealing Apple secrets in the future. It is yet to be determined if Apple will realize its objectives.
