Apple May Increase iPhone Prices This Autumn, Report Indicates
Apple may be preparing to increase the prices of its iPhones later this year, as suggested by a recent report from The Wall Street Journal. Referencing sources knowledgeable about the situation, the report states that Apple is “considering price hikes” for its upcoming autumn iPhone series.
One possible reason for the anticipated price rise is the ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China. While the two nations have recently reached an agreement to mitigate some of the significant tariffs that had been enacted, the repercussions of the trade conflict continue to affect the tech sector. Despite Apple relocating a significant portion of its U.S.-bound iPhone manufacturing to India, the company still produces its premium models — such as the iPhone Pro and Pro Max — in China, which makes them vulnerable to costs associated with tariffs.
Interestingly, Apple allegedly does not intend to connect any price hikes to tariffs. It is still unknown whether the company will reason any increase in prices with new features or enhancements in hardware.
At this moment, there is no formal announcement on how much the new iPhones might cost. Presently, the iPhone 16 starts at $799, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro has a base price of $999. The forthcoming iPhone 17 series is anticipated to bring a new ultra-slim model, likely taking the place of the current “Plus” version. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this new model — potentially named the iPhone 17 “v” — could reportedly begin at around $899.
